Grand Master Russell Correia

“RED TIGER”

Grand Master Correia has been studying martial arts for 40 years under the direction and guidance of Senior Grand Master Kalaii Kano Griffin.  He holds a 9th degree in Kajukenbo, Emperado Method of Hawaii, K.S.D.I. under Senior Grand Master Griffin; and a 7th degree in Chinese Kenpo under Senior Grand Master Griffin. Grand Master Correia has also earned his certification as a Tai Chi Instructor.  Grand Master Correia is also trained under Senior Grand Master Griffin in Judo and Escrima.

Grand Master Correia is a direct Disciple of Senior Grand Master Kalaii Kano Griffin and is currently the Successor and Chief Administrator for Griffin’s Judo & Karate / Kajukenbo International. & Griffin’s Kwan Ming Wah - System of Martial Arts.

During Grand Master Correia’s years of study, he has competed in numerous tournaments at many different levels and holds a championship record in both Kata and Kumite.

In June of 2004, Grand Master Correia opened the Southeastern Connecticut location of Griffin’s Judo & Karate / Kajukenbo International as Red Tiger Kajukenbo Karate Studios.  Prior to opening his own school location, Grand Master Correia taught adult and children’s classes for 14 years through the Southeastern Connecticut YMCA’s.  Throughout his years of teaching, Grand Master Correia has also conducted a variety of self-defense seminars and workshops for men and women of all ages.

Grand Master Correia has received numerous awards and honors including, but not limited to; induction into the Kenpojujitsu Black Belt Hall of Fame as “Outstanding Regional Assistant Instructor” in 2001, induction into the Action Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame for “Outstanding Achievements in Promoting the Martial Arts” in 2002, recipient of the “Continued Excellence in Preserving the Martial Arts Award” from the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2003 and 2004, induction into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame as “Instructor of the Year in Chinese Kenpo” in 2004, recipient of the “3 Star Good Will Ambassador to the Martial Arts Award” from the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2005, and recipient of the “4 Star Good Will Ambassador to the Martial Arts Award” from the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006.  Grand Master Correia has also received one of the highest honors within the Griffin’s Judo & Karate / Kajukenbo International organization by being awarded the Kwan Ming Wah Award in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 2008 Grand Master Correia received the first ever “Inheritor Award” given from the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame. In 2013, Grand Master Correia, was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame receiving the Silver Life Achievement Award.

Today, Grand Master Correia serves as the Chief Administrator of the Griffin’s Judo & Karate / Kajukenbo International & Griffin’s Kwan Ming Wah - System of Martial Arts and is committed to carrying on the Legacy of Senior Grand Master Kalaii Kano Griffin by teaching the Griffin’s Kwan Ming Wah - System of Martial Arts.
